Re-stocking: Here at Second Stitch we have a small team of coordinators and seamstresses. The high demand for face masks has taken us all by storm and we're working very hard to make more units available weekly. Every day we work to improve our system, and have been able to hire more seamstresses to make your orders. We receive hundreds of messages and comments every day about stock. We recommend you join our mailing list and follow us on social media as we will announce new stock drops via those platforms. Each mask sold is directly providing meaningful employment opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged members of our community. Thank you for your ongoing support and patience in regards to re-stocking.
Pre-Ordering: Pre-ordering masks is not available. They are only available for purchase online when units are in stock. We do not have stock available in store.
Layers: Our masks are made of TWO layers as recommended by WHO. These two layers create a pocket so you can insert additional filters for extra absorbent protection. We make our masks with two layers instead of three, because everybody is different. This means that you the customer can choose how many extra filters you wish to use.
Filters: You can add your own filter to create a third, middle layer; the DHHS suggests using fabric blends (cotton polyester blend / polypropylene), which could be an old piece of clothing or even a piece of reusable 'green' shopping bags! Search 'DHHS masks' for more information online. Materials with a tighter fibre weave provides better protection.
Sizing: Using a tape measure or ruler measure along the bridge of your nose just below your eyes down to the underside of your chin. Measure across your face from cheek bone to cheek bone. Check the face mask product page for the dimensions.
Fitting: You will receive your face mask with two untied pieces of elastic. Hold your mask to your face and pinch the elastic behind your ears. Tie a knot in the elastic and pull the knot inside the fabric channel of the mask. This means the knot won't sit behind your ear and the mask will be more comfortable to wear. An instructional video is available to watch on our Face Mask product page.
* Please remember that wearing a face mask does not replace social distancing measures. Continue to wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitiser, and keep 1.5 metres away from other members of the public. Please stay home when possible and follow government guidelines.
