Textile Painting Workshop with Abbey Rich

The Second Stitch team was lucky enough to spend a fun and messy day in the studio experimenting with textiles painting. Led by local artist (and legend!) Abbey Rich, we learnt how to create abstract and graphic repeat prints using tools that you would usually find around the home. These tools included sponges, plastic cups, spoons and spatulas. We ended up painting approximately 50 metres of fabric together!

We first met Abbey earlier in the year when they got in touch about getting involved with us here at Second Stitch. Over the following weeks, we started cooking up fun ways to collaborate and share knowledge. Abbey lent their skills as a graphic designer and painter, creating an incredible mural that runs up our front stairs, welcoming all of our visitors to the studio with a bold pop of colour and pattern!

In the coming months we're planning to continue this ongoing collaboration with Abbey, and turn those 50+ metres of fabric into some super special products. Keep your eyes peeled for what's to come! In the meantime, have a look at these gorgeous photos of the workshop, taken by Sam Biddle.
